Making Trouble is Making Art at Rowan University
On December 4-6, 30 performers from Rowan University’s Department of Theatre and Dance will take part in “Making Trouble: Dance of the Future,” two unique, movement-driven pieces created by a collective of choreographers, designers and students.
Curator Paule Turner provided movement designers Dr. Leslie Elkins and Beau Hancock with a toolbox of costume, lighting and sound design elements to derive their new experimental works. Focusing on process being made into performance and with inspiration from modern dance pioneer Isadora Duncan's 1903 manifesto, “The Dance of the Future,” each work explores the question: how do artists begin making dance and what kind of trouble will arise when given the same set, costume, text and sound concepts?
